Woman who killed the singer Selena in 1995 denied probation

The woman condemned for killing the musical legend of Texan Selena Quintanilla-Pérez Probation has been denied and will continue to fulfill life imprisonment to fatally shoot the young singer on a Texas motel in 1995, the State’s probation board announced Thursday.

By explaining the decision to deny probation, the Board said in a statement that the panel discovered that Saldívar continues to represent a threat to public security. He also said that the nature of the crime indicated “a conscious contempt for the lives, security or property of others.”

Saldívar, who meets his sentence in a prison in Gatesville, will be eligible to be reviewed again for probation in 2030.

On October 23, 1995, a jury condemned Saldívar for first -degree murder. She was sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of probation after 30 years.

While she was in prison, Saldívar, a former nurse, obtained her legal assistant and associated title in criminal justice. She has filed several civil rights complaints that allege abuse from the State’s prison system, according to judicial records, and also helped other inmates to present requests.

In 2016 judicial documents, Saldívar said he was detained in protective custody, which means that he was segregated from other inmates, because prison officials were concerned about their safety due to the nature of “high profile” of his case. She presented several appeals of her conviction, but all were rejected.
