“The Finale”, the final episode of What we do in the shadows After six spectacular seasons, it closed with the added advantage of a couple of false endings. Were you able to see all the footage and drain every last drop of blood from the corpse of the beloved vampire comedy? You’re missing out if you didn’t!
If you turned off your stream just as the credits for “The Finale” rolled, you would have missed a very funny scene with Guillermo and Nandor, in which Nandor proves that his superhero dreams weren’t just a bunch of nonsense. And after that, there is also a very funny scene with the vampires watching a clip of the What we do in the shadows pilot and reacting with the expected sarcasm.
But! Let’s rewind a little earlier in the episode, when Nadja “hypnotizes” the viewer through the camera, ordering him to imagine the best ending for her documentary: a meta-wink at the end of What we do in the shadows itself. When I saw the press screening provided by FX, the episode jumps to a parody of The usual suspectsas I described in my summary.
But when I rewatched the episode on Hulu, I was surprised and delighted to see a different “hypnosis-induced” ending: Nandor and Guillermo waking up in bed together, which was already a very fun sight to watch before I realized it. . What we do in the shadows was imitating the legendary “it was all a dream” ending from Newhart.
My excitement tripled when I realized there was a third option: an accurate recreation of the ending of The rosemary babyexcept this time you get to see the demonic baby, and it’s amazing. Hail Satan!
To see the three parodies and have a Clue-style “what if?” extravaganza, you just need to navigate to “Hypnosis Bonus Features” next to the “Episodes” tab in the Hulu menu for the show. Nadja even shows up to introduce the segments.
You can watch all six seasons of What we do in the shadows on Hulu now. And here’s one last photo of Jackie Daytona, for the memories. Toothpick!
