What happens if Nintendo Switch 2 is too big?

Switch 2 is a big child. That was my main conclusion of Nintendo’s long -awaited revelation about his next laptop. How could you have seen that advance and stay with some other impression? Not that Nintendo has shown much more. Of course, there was a slide about compatibility with previous versions, but the difference in size between the two systems stood out even there. It made me think: how big is it too big? And Nintendo gave priority to wrong design decisions?

If I had been following all the leaks prior to the launch, I knew this would happen. I certainly did, but I still had the rumors on an 8 -inch screen to be wrong. I am relatively new on Switch. My girlfriend and I divide the cost of a during the Black Friday of 2024. Since then, it has become one of my favorite ways to play, largely due to its portability.

Switch Oled is not as powerful as my PC for games, but I can snuggle to play on the couch with him. It is also small enough to fit in my 15 -liter backpack, which makes it ideal for traveling. I also love the OLED screen. It makes each game better, to the point that I can forgive some for having a bad performance in the system.

On paper, the Switch 2 should keep at least part of the portability of the OLED model, but I wonder how easy it will be to transport. Keep in mind that if Switch 2 is sent with an 8 -inch screen, it will have a larger screen than the Steam Deck Oled. Steam Deck is, like switch, a hand computer, but I would say that it is not portable in the true sense of the word.

Once I tried to pack the Steam Deck for a trip, but I left it when it was impossible for me to keep it in my bag along with everything else I needed to take with me. I have not tried to travel with Steam Deck since then. It is too early to know if the Switch 2 will suffer the same problem and seems relatively thin, but depending on how much I weigh, I suspect that many people will use it almost exclusively in their homes.

That is not intrinsically bad, but Switch’s genius is how cooperative game promotes. It is almost certain that I am a minority here, but the tablet mode is one of my favorite ways to play switch. On a recent flight that my girlfriend and I took Europe, the switch was a blessing in an airplane without entertainment on board.

I know that Switch 2 will have a tablet mode like its predecessor, but I wonder how many people will take advantage of that capacity with a larger and heavier device. I can see it in two ways. Or the largest screen makes this feature more attractive, or more people leave their switch 2 at home because it is uncomfortable to transport.

The other great unknown here is the battery life. If the Switch 2 has an 8 Nm chip matched with a 1080p LCD screen as rumored, it is very likely that its battery does not last as much as that of the OLED switch. Before Nintendo launched the “”Review of the original model and after the OLED switch, the battery life was not the strong point of the console, and I suspect that it will not be the Switch 2.

There are still many unknowns about Switch 2, but what caught my attention to the recent revelation of the console was that I was not completely convinced that it would be a clear improvement with respect to the Switch Oled. Obviously, the Switch 2 will offer a much higher performance and what seems like a much more solid joy-cons formed, but I am not very excited about a system that could be larger and have a screen and a worse battery life. If those predictions turn out to be true, I probably stay with my Switch Oled until Nintendo announce a 2 lite or switch 2 oled switch.
