A uniformed police officer was seen riding as a passenger on a two-wheeler, without a helmet. The bike, which had a sticker reading “police”, was spotted on the streets of Mumbai.
A traveler who witnessed the incident took a photograph of the scene, which also showed the vehicle’s license plate, “MH47 AE5165”, and shared it online.
The image of the police officer riding in the back seat with a helmetless motorcyclist was shared on Reddit by a user named Prasad. The publication highlighted the violation of traffic rules by the police officer.
“No helmet, triple seat, Police called Active and Police in uniform. What is the fine or charge? Is this legal only for police officers?” questioned the Reddit post.
The image of a police officer riding on the back seat of a two-wheeler with a helmetless driver sparked outrage on social media, with many questioning the police officer’s disregard for traffic rules.
Netizens reacted to the Reddit post and encouraged the user to share the image on X, tagging the Mumbai Police to take action.
“What do you mean rules? Rules are for regular people like us,” one user sarcastically commented. “Absolute power hai inke pass. It’s so ironic that they click pictures to fine others while they themselves ride a bike endangering others,” another commented.
Fines under the MV Law:
According to the official website of the Maharashtra government, motorists who violate traffic rules face fines. A “two-wheeler driver involved in triple trip” faces a fine of Rs. 100 for first offense and Rs. 300 for subsequent violations. The compounded rate under Section 200 of the Motor Vehicles Act is Rs. 200.
Also, not wearing a helmet carries a fine of Rs. 100 for first offense and Rs. 300 for subsequent violations. The compounding fee for this offense is Rs. 500.
