“We have to get our fans back,” says Nuno

West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo says the Hammers must “bring back our fans” after a sparsely populated London stadium booed them against Brentford.

Goals in each half from Igor Thiago and Mathias Jensen gave the Bees a victory that could and should have been by a greater margin.

Thiago had a second goal disallowed for offside as Brentford dominated and West Ham lost a fifth straight home game for the second time in their history.

Nuno said: “That was tough. Not just for me. It was tough for our fans, for our players, for everyone.

“The first 15 minutes everything worked and the team was organized and combining well, then we lost our composure.

“You have to give credit to Brentford, a physical team that put us in trouble. The throw-ins, the corners and the momentum of the game changed.

“Every day we are learning. Every moment. We are not going to sleep.

“It’s a challenge for all of us. It’s up to us to change the momentum and get our fans back behind us. Win our individual duels. In four days we need a big improvement.”

The Hammers, 19th in the table with one win so far, face Leeds on Friday night.
