Commentator Steve Bunce believes the reason Tyson Fury fled the ring immediately after the scores were announced in his loss to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk last Saturday night was because Daniel Dubois entered the ring.
Bunce feels that when Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) saw IBF heavyweight champion Dubois enter the ring to criticize Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs), he didn’t stare. That would have put Fury in an awkward position and made him look bad.
It is unclear who decided to allow Dubois into the ring. Whoever it was, they obviously didn’t consider how it would make proud former WBC champion Fury look.
The high-ranking person who made the call to let Dubois into the ring may have overlooked how he would put Dubois in the ring. Napoleonic fury in a humiliating position, being ignored like driftwood. The emperor was reduced to a secondary person with that move.
It shouldn’t have happened because there were other ways to set up a fight between Usyk and Dubois without Daniel entering the ring to call him out while Fury was still present.
It all seemed like an embarrassing circus. Dubois didn’t seem comfortable calling out Usyk, and he was ordered to do so. He seemed to know it wasn’t right and seemed shy.
“Dubois was in the ring obviously trying to fight, but it was a little disrespectful. First of all, Tyson Fury. Secondly, Oleksandr Usyk, and thirdly, Joseph Parker, who he will face in February,” Carl Frampton told TNT Sports Boxingspeaking of the circus atmosphere immediately after the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury, where Daniel Dubois was allowed to enter the ring.
“I didn’t like that very much. I understand why he’s doing it, but it wasn’t my cup of tea,” Frampton said.
“I’m sure that’s why Fury left,” said commentator Steve Bunce, explaining why he believes Tyson Fury fled the ring immediately after the fight. “You are in the ring, your Tyson Fury. You have been the King of the world for a long time. You are in the ring. The man who just beat you (Usyk) very close in points is there.
“You’re standing in the ring. You don’t show up for anything other than doing an interview and all of a sudden you see Dubois walk in, he enters stage left and walks right into a fight. If we can get another camera angle, I bet Tyson Fury leaves at some point during the former. He is standing in the ring. That’s how it works,” Bunce said.
“I know it’s 2-0, but it has been very tight and very controversial. There is a trilogy on the table. I think they have a third fight,” Bunce said of wanting a trilogy between Fury and Usyk next. “It’s still a huge fight against AJ. Have a third fight (with Oleksandr). He’s not going to be knocked out. AJ’s fight is still there. “I think Fury is right when he says, ‘The AJ fight is going to be there no matter when it happens,’” Bunce said.
Fury-Usyk were not controversial fights unless you are a Fury fan. People didn’t see any of those matches as controversial. The only thing questionable about the first was the referee giving Fury an eight count in the ninth round when he was seriously injured.
There is almost no chance of a trilogy fight between Usyk and Fury happening next because it is too risky for Tyson. He and his promoters won’t want to take the risk of Usyk beating him a third time and ruining the lucrative fight with Anthony Joshua. Additionally, Turki Alalshikh said after the fight that he wants to do a showdown between Joshua and Fury next. He didn’t say anything about the preparation of the trilogy.
