The automotive groups react to Trump’s tariffs in imports from Canada, Mexico, China
On February 1, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that imposed an additional 10% rate to address the alleged synthetic opioid supply chain in China.
The Order accused the Chinese Communist Party (PCC) of having “subsidized and incentivized in another way” Chinese chemical companies to export fentanyl and related precursor chemicals that are used to produce synthetic opioids illegally sold in the US.
Synthetic opioids kill approximately two hundred Americans per day, and related overdose are the main cause of death for people from 18 to 45 years in the United States.

Trump said many of those companies “do everything possible to evade the application of the law and hide illegal substances in the legitimate trade flow.”
The techniques include hiding the true content of the packages and the identity of the distributors through the use of re-show, false invoices, fraudulent fraud and misleading, according to the order.

China threatens to retaliate against Trump’s tariffs
Just after the tariffs came into force, the China Ministry of Finance announced that it would impose a 15% rate for carbon and liquefied natural gas and 10% for crude oil, agricultural equipment and large motor cars Imported from the United States, as of February 10.
