Ubisoft quietly releases another NFT game with Rayman, Blood Dragon

Hello players! Do you like it Rayman? Do you like it Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon? Do you wish they would make a new Rayman either blood dragon game? Well, you’ve got your wish (sort of) if you’re willing to give it a lot of freedom and a little money. Journalist Stephen Totilo The newsletter reported that Ubisoft secretly launched a new NFT-powered Web3 game featuring Captain Laserhawk from the blood dragon Animated spin-off series from Netflix and Rayman (which hasn’t appeared in a proper new adventure in years).

It looks like a generic top-down shooter set in the bright neon future world of the blood dragon universe. You compete in an arena-style bloodsport where getting the most kills grants you victory. Totilo describes it as “the most basic top-down shooter you can imagine.”

You will need a Niji Warrior NFT to play. Totilo reported that Ubisoft offered 10,000 special NFTs for free with some Web3 transaction fees earlier this month. The Niji Warrior NFT serves as a sort of ID card, and if you missed your chance to get one for free, you’ll have to shell out a minimum of $14.38 (0.0022 in Ethereum, depending) just to get into the game.

Then, to add digital insult to injury, Rayman acts as the announcer for these gladiator deathmatches from the future. Rayman appears in the game, but you can’t even play as the game’s cunning, cartoon-like hero. He is forced to be the Marv Albert of this bloody cryptocurrency grab.

There’s only one compelling reason to play: you won’t need to work hard to reach the leaderboard. Totilo said he reached the top 10 of the world rankings, in a ranking that showed fewer than 100 players. I wouldn’t say the game was a runaway success yet.

This isn’t the first time Ubisoft has quietly released a Web3-based game to cash in on the NFT craze that fell out of favor years ago. Ubisoft Quartz launched the tactical RPG in October, in which players could purchase NFTs for up to $6,300.
