Trump offers a path for Canada to avoid rates: “Become our precious state 51”

President Donald Trump repeated his suggestion that Canada became 51 on Sunday, and points out that he would not be subject to his incoming tariffs if the country joins the United States.

“We pay hundreds of billions of dollars to subsidize Canada. Why? There is no reason,” Trump wrote in Truth Social. “We do not need anything they have. We have unlimited energy, we should make our own cars and have more wood than we can use. Without this massive subsidy, Canada ceases to exist as a viable country.

“Therefore, Canada should become our precious state 51,” Trump added. “Much lower taxes and a much better military protection for the people of Canada, and there are no tariffs!”

Trump has suggested for weeks that the United States should take control of Canada through economic pressure.
