Sen. Bill Hagerty, R-Tennessee, discusses President Donald Trump’s “complicated relationship” with China, weighs in on the end of trade negotiations with Canada and more on “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street.”
President Donald Trump announced Saturday that the United States will impose an additional 10% tariff on Canadian imports, citing a “fraudulent ad” featuring former President Ronald Reagan speaking against the tariffs.
Trump claimed the ad, which aired during the World Series that began Friday, was part of Canada’s “hope that the U.S. Supreme Court will come to its ‘rescue’ over the tariffs they have used for years to hurt the United States.”
“Canada was caught, red-handed, placing a fraudulent ad in Ronald Reagan’s speech on tariffs,” Trump aware to Truth Social on Saturday. “The Reagan Foundation said they ‘created an advertising campaign using selective audio and video of President Ronald Reagan. The ad misrepresents the presidential radio address’ and ‘did not seek or receive permission to use and edit the comments.'”

Trump accused Canada of misrepresenting Reagan, claiming the late president “loved tariffs” when it came to national security and the economy.
“Their ad was supposed to be pulled IMMEDIATELY, but they let it run last night during the World Series, knowing it was a FRAUD,” Trump said.

He added: “Due to your gross misrepresentation of facts and your hostile act, I am raising the tariff to Canada by 10% above what you are paying now. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
According to Trump, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute is exploring legal options in response to the incident.
The announcement comes just days after the president said he would end trade negotiations with Canada over the announcement.

“The Ronald Reagan Foundation just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an ad, which is FALSE, in which Ronald Reagan speaks negatively about tariffs,” Trump wrote in Truth Social on Thursday.
Earlier this month, Trump defended his use of tariffs as a corrective to what he called years of trade imbalance, saying the United States had been “the king of getting screwed by tariffs” but would no longer allow other nations to exploit them.
“We are the kings of getting screwed by tariffs,” Trump said during a bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in the Oval Office.
