Top US Vacation Home Markets by 2024


This year there were some changes in the rankings of America’s most popular real estate markets for high-end vacation homes compared to last, with the top spot this year seeing a meteoric rise in popularity.

TO new analysis from second home co-ownership market Pacaso revealed which US counties were the most popular markets for luxury vacation homes in 2024, based on increases in second home activity, the ratio of second homes to residential and demand for properties priced above $700,000.

These are the most sought-after places for second homes in 2024, according to the results:

1) Cape May County, New Jersey

The report showed that Cape May County, off the Jersey Shore, was catapulted from outside the top 20 last year to the title of number one second home destination in 2024, and it wasn’t even close.

Cape May tops this year’s list with a staggering ratio of second homes to primary residences exceeding 150%, thanks to its iconic coastal cities like Ocean City and Avalon, according to the analysis.

Pacaso attributed the area’s rise to its combination of family activities, nightlife, cultural experiences and wide beaches, along with its proximity to urban centers such as new york city and Philadelphia.

3) Walton County, Florida

“In Florida, Gulf, Walton and Collier counties, home to Panhandle cities along 30A and Naples, are emerging as top luxury housing destinations, offering prime waterfront properties that are scarce in areas like Miami and Palm Beach,” said Pacaso CEO Austin Allison. he told FOX Business.

5) Collier County, Florida

Collier County in the Florida Panhandle, which already has a strong market for second homes, has become a popular destination for snowbirds. Naples and Marco Island are the most notable cities located within the county, where the average second home costs more than $896,000.
