Threads is adding a new feature that allows users to be a little more creative when remixing other people’s posts. The app now has a “bookmark” tool that allows users to doodle over posts they want to share, Adam Mosseri shared on .
Markup capabilities appear in the quote and republish menu. But instead of simply quoting a post, launch an editing tool where you can add highlights, arrows, or doodles on top of a screenshot of the post. Mosseri said the feature is intended “so you can add your creative vision” to posts, but the tools are fairly limited for now. You can only add yellow highlights or red arrows and doodles, although Mosseri said there will be “more to come soon” from Meta.
A Threads spokesperson confirms that the feature will work similarly to citing posts in that the original user is notified if someone decides to flag their post. You can also use the “who can reply and quote” settings to disable flagging on your own posts.
The app is also making two other previously previewed features official: and . The features will likely be particularly useful for brands, creators, and others managing a professional presence on the site, which until now has lacked many of the more advanced business-focused tools that other Meta platforms have. Both could also prove useful if Meta starts using Threads, a move that is reportedly in the works for early 2025.
