The Indonesian President, Pabowo Subianto, has signed new agreements on trade and defense cooperation with Prime Minister Mark Carney in Parliament Hill.
The commercial agreement is integral, which means that it opens trade in multiple industries with the fourth most populous country in the world.
Carney said that the “Change of Game” agreement is the first bilateral commercial pact signed with a member of the Southeast Asian Nations Association (ASEAN).
“Once it is completely implemented, it means that more than 95 percent of tariffs on current exports from Canada to Indonesia will be reduced or eliminated,” journalists in Ottawa told reporters.
“Everyone will be at preferential rates, which makes our exports obviously much more competitive.”
The prime minister also announced a New Defense Cooperation Agreement That “will deepen our collaboration in maritime security cyber defense, the maintenance of peace and military education.”
“This is essential for Canada as part of our Indo-Pacific strategy, and sends a strong signal to the world that Canada and Indonesia are committed to working together for peace and stability in the region and beyond,” he said.

Last November, both countries announced that the commercial negotiations that began in 2021 had finished.
Indonesia is looking for resources in Canada and a potential work on critical minerals and nuclear energy technology.
The population of Indonesia of 280 million people is younger than the majority, and the country has been trying to dismiss the carbon economy, since it faces threats to its biodiversity.
Subianto says that Canada is a “very responsible, Maduro and the West leadership power”, but also one that has “great empathy for the concerns of developing nations.”
Canada has increased its commitments with the ASEAN in recent years in economic and security matters in an attempt to promote its presence in the Indo-Pacific and counteract the influence of China.
