The announcement marks the first time Libya participation in the in the current war.
The Sudanese army accused the forces of the Military Commander of the East Libyan, Khalifa, of attacking the Sudanese border posts, the first time he accused his northwest neighbor of the direct participation in the civil war of the country, now in his third year.
The war between the Sudanese army and the Paramilitary Fast Support forces (RSF), whom the military also accused of joint participation in the recent attack, have been based on multiple countries, while international attempts to achieve peace have failed so far.
At the beginning of the war, Sudan had accused Haftar of supporting the RSF through weapons deliveries. For a long time he has accused the ally of Haffar to the United Arab Emirates of supporting the RSF also, even through direct drones attacks last month. The EAU deny those accusations.
Egypt, who has also supported Haftar, has long supported the Sudanese army.
In a statement, the spokesman for the Sudanese army Nabil Abdallah said that the attack took place in the Border Triangle of Libya-Egipto-Sudan, an area north of one of the main lines of the war, El-Fafur, the capital of northern Darfur.
He said the attack constitutes “a shameless aggression against Sudan.”
“We will defend our country and our national sovereignty, and we will prevail, regardless of the scope of the conspiracy and aggression supported by the United Arab Emirates and their militias in the region,” Abdallah added.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sudan accused the EAU of supporting the assault, describing it as a “dangerous climb” and a “flagrant violation of international law.”
“The Sudan border with Libya has long served as an important corridor for weapons and mercenaries that support the terrorist militia, financed by the EAU and coordinated by the forces of Haftar and the affiliated terrorist groups,” he said in a statement.
There was no immediate response from Haftar’s forces.
The RSF has not issued an official statement, but a source within the group said that its combatants had taken control on Monday from the entrance to Jebel Uweinat, a remote mountain area that is where the three countries are located, according to the AFP news agency.
