Superheroes films are not as big as before, with the last Marvel, Captain America: Brave New World fighting to overcome the box office of Antman and The Wasp: QuantumaniaBut even then, the fall of Hellboy, from the production of Guillermo del Toro de Gran Budget to an idea of last moment thrown into Hulu, is amazing. Still, Hellboy: The crooked manThe fourth film of the series, starring the third actor, Jack Kesy, to portray the good demonic guy, debuted as the number one film in Hulu. It is the most direct adaptation of Mike Mignola’s comic so far, and even a low budget with cheap effects cannot maintain a good low story.
Hellboy: The crooked man It is not a jogging adventure of the world as the other films starring Ron Perlman and David Harbor, on the other hand, is found in the Apalaches forests in a small town full of witches and haunted by a dark presence. Hellboy and BPRD Bobbie Jo Song (Adeline Rudolph), a character who is not in the original graphic novel, Get Get Up with Tom (Jefferson White) who returns home to face the corrupt man (Martin Bassindale) and reconcilia with his ex -girlfriend witch. Tom explains that the demonic entity provides power at a high price, and although this is a younger version of the hero since the film is set in 1959, the BPRD agent knows one or two things about contracts with demons.
The Aquelarre de Brujas, disciples of crooked man, gets involved, while Reverend Nathaniel Watts (Joseph Marcell) lends his blessings to the good. As with all good history of Hellboy, The crooked man It culminates in a final battle in a decomposition gothic structure as both real and imagined threats involved to the heroes. It is a satisfactory and quite comic story that has delighted most fans of the original series, but in no way is perfect.
From the opening scene aboard a train, it shows that Hellboy: The crooked man It will not be as visually interesting as the two films of Del Toro. Everything seems washed and if you did not know anything better, you would think it was an original Syfy film of mid -2000.
Martin Bassindale touches the folklore monster with the correct amount of spooky, accentuated by the sounds of the bones that cracked and readjust every time it moves, but it is difficult not to imagine how much better would have seen with something similar to a budget behind the film. Filmed at a low price by director Brian Taylor (director of Crank, Playerand creator of the bonkers detective series, Happy), Hellboy: The crooked man It has the appearance of a fans film, in the best possible way, and was clearly a love work for the source material and not an attempt at another box office success. It was intended to be a transmission success, and fortunately for BPRD fans, that is exactly what it is today.
Not only is it Hellboy: The crooked man Proof that a scale superhero film can work if expectations are kept under control, it is also a love letter to the supernatural gothic comic out of the common that never hit the main current. The film has more in common with Evil Dead of what he does Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of madnessBut thanks to everyone to give everything, it is one of the best Hulu films, and if the transmission numbers impress the right people, there is the possibility that it can even relaunch the inactive franchise.
Hellboy: The crooked man Now he is transmitting in Hulu.
