In a dramatic session of the late night, the United States Senate is voting on the nomination of Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense, who has promised to bring a “warrior culture” to the Pentagon despite the questions about his qualifications and accusations of Excessive consumption of alcohol and aggressive behavior towards women.
Rarely a cabinet nominated faced such broad concerns about his experience and behavior as Hegseth, particularly for such a high profile role that leads US military.
But the Senate led by the Republicans was determined to confirm Hegseth, a former host of Fox News and veteran combat, to complete the main officials of the National Security Cabinet of the president of the United States.
The United States vice president, JD Vance, was expected in the Senate, in the probable event that would be necessary to break a draw, and Hegseth himself was in the Capitol with his family to see the vote.
The leader of the majority of the Senate, John Thune, opened Friday’s session saying that Hegseth, as veteran of the National Guard that served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, “will bring the perspective of a warrior” to work.
“Before the days of the alaruting distractions will remain,” said Thune, referring to the initiatives of diversity, equity and inclusion that were reduced throughout the federal government of the United States. “The pentagon approach will be in the fight against war.”
The Senate’s ability to confirm Hegseth despite a serious series of accusations against him will provide a measure of political power and Trump’s ability to obtain what he wants from the congress led by Republicans and the power of cultural wars to feed His agenda in the White House.
