The secret service shot a man during an armed confrontation near the White House on Sunday, the agency announced.
The incident took place just after midnight, one block from the White House, on the west side of the Eisenhower executive office building.
In a statement, the secret service said that on Saturday the police shared information about a suicidal person who could have traveled to Washington, DC, from Indiana.

Around midnight, the members of the Secret Service met the man’s parked car near the streets 17 and F, NW, and saw a person who coincides with their description nearby.
When the officers approached him, the man soft a firearm, which led to an armed confrontation where the secret service agents shot him.

He was urgently taken to a nearby hospital and his condition is unknown, said a spokesman for the Secret Service.
There were no lesions reported to the secret service personnel.

The Metropolitan Police Department will direct an investigation into the shooting since they are the main agency responsible for the incidents for the use of force within the Columbia district, the secret service said.
