In 2020, “The Old Guard” became a plan for the type of medium level action films that can prosper in Netflix. The Charlize Theron vehicle on immortal mercenaries with regenerative skills took its sweet time to obtain a sequel, to the point that in July 2024, /film conducted an investigation into whether “The Old Guard 2” was still happening. The answer to the question finally turned out to be “yes”, and as confirmed by the advance of “The Old Guard 2”, the film even pays the most horrible moment of the original film exploring what five centuries of drowning constantly inside an iron maiden has made Quynh (Ngô Theu Vân). Unfortunately, critics have not been friendly with “The Old Guard 2”, which is enough to make me ask if the story of the series could have ended. After all, “The Old Guard 2” concludes with Quỳnh and Andy of Theron doing peace and associating with Discord, confirming that the plan is (or, at least, it was) to present even more actions by Theron vs. Thurman in the future.
The climate confrontation between the “Mad Max: Fury Road”, Andy and the discord of the veteran “Kill Bill”, is the type of exciting battle between established action luminaires that you rarely see outside the “Expendable” franchise, and I, definitely, would definitely welcome some more fighting scenes between the two.
