It almost seemed a serious mistake to relive a long latent franchise whose comic identity revolves around the presence of the screen impossible to resort to Leslie Nielsen, but it may be sure, it is a new glorious day for the series “The Naked Gun”. In the restart directed by Akiva Schaffer of the same name, Liam Neeson embraces his darker side like Frank Drebin Jr., the equally destructive offspring of Nielsen’s character. After spending the last half of his film career playing the older boys, Neeson channels that energy in an incredibly funny performance that honors his film dad without copying him directly. It is clear that this was done by people who venerate what David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker (also known as Zaz) brought the comedy genre.
Schaffer’s “naked gun” is not just a great continuation of the original trilogy, but a loving ode for the short -term television series that began with “Police Squad”. If you have ever seen the “naked gun” movies, then I implore you to see the deeply funny half -hour comedy series that you can end in less time that would take you “The Batman”. The “Police Squad” of 1982 was a parody of police procedures such as “M Squad” and “Adam-12” that was advanced in his time, playing his completely direct jokes without the use of a laughing track. It was based on bright jokes as “Act II: Bruté” when the show returned from his commercial rest. Only six half -hour episodes of the innovative series before ABC executives cancel it without ceremonies because the jokes required that spectators really pay attention to what they are seeing.
The original trilogy of “Gun Naked Gun” went through some of the best jokes in the series, but his comic tone reflected all kinds of police films and other pop culture successes. The difference here is that Drebin Jr. and Beth begin to realize that no one else moves and frees himself from his points. The credits continue while walking through the complex AI for fear of what is happening. Beth pushes his hand through a medium flow water source, while Drebin Jr. almost crosses the screen. In a moment, Beth even whisper terror where non -dietary music could come. It is not only a brilliant use of the issue of “police team”, but an updated version of the gag that ended each episode of the series.
The “Police Squad” would always end an epilogue where Nielsen and Hockn (here played by Alan North) would make a joke, then superplace the final credits on their frozen state. Some of the funniest examples are a criminal that is released, Hocken, pouring hot coffee on Drebin’s hand, and the set literally crumbles around it. He sat the foundations for the “bare weapon” of making you want to sit through the final loans because the jokes continued to arrive.
After Schaffer’s “naked gun” leaves the couple worried, there are still a lot of other sweets, including a bis of the moli -siren of the first film police, a lot of jokes in the text of the displacement credits, a song by Drebin Jr. and a stinger after the credit with the Weird Al Yankovic series. But it is the repetition of the false freezing frame that gave me the biggest laugh.
