The iconic Star Trek actor scared a hospital with makeup

By Chris Snellgrove | Published

In retrospect, it is remarkable that Star Trek’s golden age had no more injuries behind the scene. In addition to the potential of acrobatics to be cadastrophicly wrong, these actors had to simulate that their ship or station was under attack inclined in several directions while the camera was violently shaking. However, Deep space nine The Nana Visitor star received such a bad injury that she was sent to the hospital, and her treatment was delayed because her Bajoran makeup caused the medical staff to think she had a broken nose.

Nana’s visitor is heading to the hospital

The story of the strange trip of Nana visitors to the hospital begins with “Dramatis Persoe”, one of the strangest episodes of season 1 of Deep space nine. She slipped, but it wasn’t starting. Instead, he fell while walking on wet stairs, wounding her back. At first, the visitor emulated his hard character like his nails and insisted that he could film all his scenes, causing executive producer Rick Berman to insist that he go to the hospital.

Berman is one of the most notorious figures in the story of Star Trek, one that has been accused of being a “furious homophobe” by cough writer and TNG David Gerrold and being “very misogynist” by the star of DS9 Terry Farrell . The latter’s comments have led to a continuous perception of Berman as someone who despised the female stars that worked for him. However, the credit where credit is due: as soon as Nana’s visitor tried to film her scenes after her injury, it was Berman who insisted that she went to a hospital immediately.

The actor fulfilled and she was directly To the hospital, which means that the time was not taken to remove their makeup Bajoran before leaving the set. You may not think that this is a big problem … after all, Bajorians seem almost completely humans. So it was unlikely that Nana’s visitor has sprayed the hospital with her makeup on to scare as many people as, for example, co -star Michael Dorn, leaving the set while still using her complete Klingon makeup.

However, when Nana’s visitor arrived at the hospital, she ran into a problem. Namely that doctors did not attend immediately behind their injured back. That was because they assumed that he had come to the hospital because he had a broken nose. Ironically, that was due to the main physical characteristic that differentiate humans from humans in Star Trek: a kind of nose fin that, in retrospective, could easily be confused by a broken nose.

Fortunately, everything is fine that ends well with this identity story of erroneous injuries: Nana Visitor could finally make the hospital staff try it once they realized that it did not have a broken nose. And he was able to continue filming his scenes for “Dramis Persee”, an episode that impressed the future Showrunner Ira Steven Behr due to how many bold risks date back to the first season of the program. When everything is said and done, this incident leaves us with a question that can never be answered: does Starfleet have its own version of OSHA to help keep the workplaces of the 24th century safe?
