An iconic baby food brand is suspending a dentition product after a child was sent to the emergency room after using it.
Gerber announced the withdrawal of his dentition sticks Soothe N Chew on January 31. In a press release published by the Matriz Nestlé company, the brand said the products raised “a possible danger of suffocation for babies and young children.”
“The withdrawal began after receiving complaints from consumers about suffocation incidents,” Gerber said in the statement. “To date, a visit to the emergency room has been informed.
The products were distributed in 45 most Puerto Rico states, including: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland. , Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Dakota del Sur, Tennessee , Texas, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin.

The exempt states of the distribution were Alaska, North Dakota, Wyoming, Louisiana and Wyoming. According to Gerber, the products “were distributed throughout the country through the Internet and in distribution centers and retail stores in the following states and territories.”
The dentition products arrived in two flavors: strawberry apple and banana. The withdrawal and interruption are only limited to those two flavors.
The statement emphasized that parents who bought chewing sticks “should not feed this product to their child and can return the product to the retailer where it was bought for a refund.”

“Any person worried about an injury or disease must communicate with a medical care provider,” the statement said. “For any additional support, Gerber is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with 1-800-4-Gerber (1-800-443-7237)”.
“We are working with the United States Food and Medicines Administration (FDA) in this retirement and cooperate with them,” Gerber added. “We sincerely apologize for any concern or inconvenience that this action represents for parents, caregivers and retail customers.”
It is rare for Gerber to remove the products, but it has happened in the past. In 2023, Gerber Baby’s formula that withdrew because he potentially contained harmful bacteria were erroneously sent to dozens of retailers after the retirement began.
