Old franchises are back in style again, and the pendulum has finally swung for scary movie. We learned just before Halloween that scary movie would be rising from the dead, and now there is a release date. Miramax Films’ horror comedy series will return with a new movie on June 12, 2026.

Where the first two films parodied famous slasher films like Shout and I know what you did last summer, The sequels without Wayans pivoted to the broader horror genre, from Ring and Spare movies for paranormal activity. While none of them were exactly critical darlings, almost all of them made a lot of money. They were also part of the pop culture that led to other (and possibly lesser) parody films flooding theaters in the late 2000s, such as Meet the Spartans, the superhero movie, and Vampires suck.
The first four scary movie Fans fondly remember the films and help introduce audiences to the Wayans and co-leads Anna Faris and Regina Hall. At this point, it’s unclear if Faris and Hall are returning alongside the Wayans, nor what movies they’ll be riffing on at the moment. But at least we know there are some laughs on the horizon, and all we have to do is survive until June 12, 2026 so we can laugh at whatever the Wayans and company have cooked up.
