The collection of the tax and services tax (GST) for the month of August was recorded at 6.5 percent higher than the same period of the previous year at RS 1.8 Lakh million rupees. According to government data, from this, CGST amounted to RS 34,076 million rupees, while SGS amounted to RS 42,854 million rupees, and IGST amounted to RS 97,186 million rupees. Cess amounted to RS 12,199 million rupees in August.
However, the GST collection for the previous month was higher than in August at RS 1.96 Lakh million rupees, according to government data. The collection had reached its highest brand in April in RS 2.37 Lakh Crore.
Gross internal income increased by 9.6 percent to RS 1.37 Lakh million rupees in August. However, imports raised from imports fell 1.2 percent to RS 49,354 million rupees during the same period.
GST reimbursements saw a 20 percent year -on -year decrease, for a value of 19,359 million rupees. Despite this, GST’s net income reached RS 1.67 Lakh million rupees in August 2025, marking a growth of 10.7 percent compared to the previous year.
The collection occurs two days before the GST council meeting, which will deliberate on the rationalization of fees and reduce the number of fiscal slabs. According to sources, the inverted tax structure remains a challenge, especially when rates can be reduced to 5 percent or exempt, while most input services continue to be taxed at 18 percent.
