The New York Giants dominated the Philadelphia Eagles 34-17 for the team’s first victory over Philadelphia since January 7, 2024. This loss marks the Eagles’ first losing streak since the 2023-24 season.
Mental errors were Philadelphia’s downfall. They turned the ball over twice, allowed three sacks and only had one third-down conversion in the game.
At the same time, the Eagles couldn’t stop the rookie duo of quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Cam Skattebo. Dart had 195 passing yards, 58 rushing yards and two total touchdowns. Meanwhile, Cam Skattebo rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
The Giants had no answer for Eagles running back Saquon Barkley on the first series of the game. He had 31 rushing yards on his first two carries of the night, allowing Philadelphia to connect on a 42-yard field goal attempt to take a 3-0 lead. On the Eagles’ first possession, Barkley surpassed his rushing total from last week (30 yards).
New York began its first drive with good field position thanks to a 37-yard kick return to bring the ball near midfield. On his first third-down attempt, quarterback Jaxson Dart threw a deep pass to receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey for a 34-yard gain on his first catch of the season. That led to Jaxson Dart running into the end zone for a 19-yard touchdown and a 7-3 lead. Humphrey, who was elevated to the 53-man practice squad roster today, finished the game with four receptions for 55 yards.
After a three-pointer by the Eagles, the Giants got back on the board. Wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson made two catches for 61 yards and a touchdown to extend Big Blue’s lead to 13-3 after a missed extra point. That was the first time since 2020 that the Giants scored more than seven points in the first quarter of a game.
Philadelphia managed to respond, thanks in part to a remarkable 30-yard reception by wide receiver AJ Brown. Once the Eagles reached the red zone, quarterback Jalen Hurts threw a pass below the line of scrimmage to tight end Dallas Goedert, who forced his way into the end zone to cut the lead to 13-10. With that score, Goedert has five touchdowns in his last four games.
After forcing a three-pointer to close the first quarter, Jalen Hurts completed five straight passes for 68 yards to reach the Big Blue three-yard line. From there, Philadelphia ran two straight drives for a new series of downs at the one-yard line. Two downs later, the Eagles clawed their way to a touchdown and a 17-13 lead. Philadelphia finished that series with four consecutive drives.
Giants wide receiver Jalin Hyatt made consecutive receptions for five and six yards to bring New York to the Philadelphia 22-yard line with two minutes left in the first half. That set up a rushing touchdown to running back Cam Skattebo from four yards out for a 20-17 Big Blue lead with 1:19 left in the second quarter. Coming into the game, Hyatt didn’t have a single reception this season.
Philadelphia’s offense took the field at its own seven-yard line with no timeouts. Although they managed to gain 45 yards, time ran out after a nine-yard run by Jalen Hurts, sending it to halftime.
After three consecutive outs to start the third quarter, the Giants offense once again rallied due to some costly mental errors by the Eagles. A mask penalty followed by an illegal contact helped New York get into the red zone. Finally, Cam Skattebo forced his way over the goal line for his second rushing touchdown of the night to increase Big Blue’s lead to 27-17. This was the first game of Skattebo’s career with multiple rushing TDs.
Giants pass rusher Brian Burns continued to build on an excellent season. He had two sacks in this game to bring his total to seven on the season, tying him for the league lead with Nik Bonitto of the Denver Broncos. His second sack ended a promising Eagles drive and forced a punt late in the third quarter.
A disastrous moment for the New York Giants came as they advanced late in the third quarter. Jaxson Dart went down with an apparent head injury before running off the field toward the blue medical tent. Fortunately, he was cleared of a concussion and returned to the field on the Giants’ next drive.
On Philadelphia’s next drive, a 25-yard defensive pass interference call took the Eagles to the New York 25-yard line. After entering the red zone, Jalen Hurts threw his first interception of the season, which was returned 68 yards to the Philadelphia 23-yard line with 11:25 left in the game. That was Hurts’ first INT in his last 305 regular-season passes.
The Eagles defense couldn’t get off the field all night as the Giants were 11 of 15 on third down attempts. A defensive pass interference penalty on 3rd-and-8 led to a Cam Skattebo rushing touchdown on the next play to put New York ahead 34-17 with 9:41 left in the game. Philadelphia was just 1 of 9 on third downs tonight.
Facing a 17-point deficit from their own 11-yard line, the Eagles had no choice but to go for it on fourth down. They converted that play easily to get out of their own red zone. Two downs later, Jalen Hurts found Dallas Goedert wide open for 36 yards. However, the drive ended with a turnover, when the Giants forced a fumble that they recovered at their own 25-yard line with 6:50 left.
Once they got the ball back, the Giants ran out of time to secure the victory. This was Big Blue’s first win over an NFC East team in its last nine division games.
