The final episodes are some of the best

This is all. After six years and six seasons (the last one was divided into three parts), “Cobra Kai” finally reached its final episodes. Although individually, the three parts of season 6 felt slow and incomplete, together they are one of the best seasons of the program, particularly because part 3 has some of the best episodes of the entire program. (In other words, Netflix should probably not have divided them all).

“Cobra Kai” has traveled a long way. He survived skepticism and the loss of its original launch platform to become one of the best shows in recent years, and one of the best inherited sequelae, point. It is really impressive that this show, which began as a more entrenched and dramatic version of a “How I Met Mother” joke, would end not only making a very effective restart of “The Karate Kid” starring a new generation of enthusiasts From karate, but they also served as the sequel to the dreams of the first three films “Karate Kid”. In the last six years, we have seen Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) argue and Bicker as an old married couple before becoming good friends. They have even associated with other antagonists, Chozen (Yuji Okumoto) and Mike Barnes (Sean Kanan), to fight John Kreeese (Martin Kove) and Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith).

“Cobra Kai” is a program that has always understood how and when to do the fan service, rely on nostalgia to say something new about loved characters and echo the past to explore new stories. In his final episodes, “Cobra Kai” turns everything into 11 and delivers five hours full of the wildest not only in the program, but also in the franchise in general.

Part 2 of season 6 stayed after Sekai Taikai was interrupted by a violent fight that resulted in unexpected and tragic death. The new episodes resume shortly after, with the tournament officially canceled and everyone still staggered violent events and having their opportunity for glory. That is until Terry Silver (of course, who else?) .

Not everyone is on board. On the one hand, John Kreeese is not interested in killing another of his students. Here is possibly the greatest surprise and the best story of the season, since we see a radically different Kreese, one that is completely shocked by Kwon’s death. What follows is the culmination of the topics throughout the franchise, that of the relationship between teachers and students, and how the teacher’s failures impact their students. Martin Kove does a spectacular job that portrays Kreee’s crisis of faith, reflecting on his past actions and if there is a space for him in this world of karate.

This theme also extends to Daniel and Johnny. The first finally receives a resolution to the mystery of the season of the past of Miyagi, which has been and remains disappointing. Of course, it is interesting that the Argumie program that Miyagi was not a saint, and seeing Daniel to accept the fact that his mentor was a defective man, but turning him into a mysterious cash element throughout the season made the resolution reach the other side as disappointing.

If part 3 of the “Cobra Kai” season makes something clear, it is that this show has always been the journey of Johnny Lawrence by William Zabka. Zabka gets the great attention center these last five episodes, doing a better job of his career when Johnny confronts his demons, the damage Kreese has made to him and his insecurities, while recognizing his achievements and how far he has arrived .

“Cobra Kai” has always been good to know how to arm nostalgia in the right way, and the final episodes are about looking back so you can look forward. There are many references, tributes, direct calls and direct recreations of moments of the first “karate kid” in these episodes, and they never feel like writers nodding the audience.

On the other hand, the references are there to say something about the past and the present, to show the progression in which the characters have been. Without spoiling any surprise, let’s say that the final episodes of “Cobra Kai” are the dreams of a fanatic, and the culmination of six years of obtaining the correct call returns at the right time. When the moment of truth came for this show, he showed that it was the best.
