The England midfielder will join Marseille

Angel Gomes will join Marseille after leaving the French team Lille.

The former Manchester United boy, who has won four caps for England, had been linked to West Ham and Tottenham, but has opted for Marseille, where he will join with another former United player in Mason Greenwood.

The 24-year-old could also accompany CJ Egan-Riley in Burnley at the Stade Velodrome after the Clarets confirmed that the defender had rejected the offer of a new agreement in Turf Moor.

A Marseille statement said: “Olympique de Marseille announces that he has reached an agreement in principle with Angel Gomes regarding the arrival of the English international midfielder in the club.”

Egan-Riley impressed when Burnley said the promotion of the Premier League last season, but was also out of contract this summer.

Lancashire’s side was interested in the 22 -year -old staying, but accepted that he wishes to move on.
