The champions share a record defeat

Lazio suffered their worst home defeat in their history as champions Inter Milan claimed a 6-0 victory in Rome.

Lazio began the night level on points with Inter and top of the Europa League standings, but had no response to an impressive attacking display from Simone Inzaghi’s side.

They were unbeaten in 12 home games and had not lost at their own fans since March.

Hakan Calhanoglu put Inter ahead from the penalty spot in the 41st minute, following a penalty for handball, and Federico Dimarco doubled the lead before the break with a volley.

Nicolo Barella made it 3-0 six minutes after the restart, before Denzel Dumfries scored two minutes later and Carlos Augusto and Marcus Thuram completed the late rout.

Inter remains third in the standings with 34 points from 15 games and is three points behind leaders Atalanta with one game less.

Lazio’s previous record home defeat was a 5-0 loss to Fiorentina in 1959.

Their three biggest defeats in Serie A were all against Internazionale: this defeat came after 8-1 (in 1934) and 7-0 (in 1961) defeats in Milan.
