South Korean lawmakers voted Saturday to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol over his brief declaration of martial law earlier this month.
The National Assembly approved the motion in a vote of 204 to 85 on Saturday.
Saturday’s vote means Yoon’s presidential powers and duties will be suspended after copies of an impeachment document are delivered to him and the Constitutional Court.

The court has up to 180 days to determine whether to remove Yoon as president or restore his powers. If he is removed from office, national elections must be held to elect his successor within 60 days.
