During the candid conversation, which will air in its entirety on December 12, Mendes details a recent romantic relationship that he split from after he shared his intentions to reunite with an old flame.
“I’m with someone,” Mendes tells Mayer on the latter’s SiriusXM show, “New Light.”
“Two days before I go out with my ex, (I) express that I’m going out with my ex because I have unresolved feelings,” she continued.
Mendes did not mention any names, according to AND! Newsbut signs apparently point to Carpenter as the person she was dating at the time. The two were seen together on multiple occasions starting in February 2023.
About a month later, Mendes was photographed at Coachella in Palm Springs partying with Camila Cabello, his famous ex, as they kissed more than once.

Carpenter, like Mendes, has never openly shared details about a fling with the Canadian hunk, but fans feel she has hinted at their romance in her music.
On “Taste,” the third single from Carpenter’s Grammy-nominated album “Short ‘n Sweet,” the blonde star sings about how an old love’s memory still lingers for her new partner.
“You’ll have to taste me when he kisses you,” she sings during the chorus.
Another cut on the album, “Coincidence,” makes a clearer mention of someone spending time in Palm Springs with “the girl he outgrew.”

Mendes has previously opened up about his on-again, off-again relationship with Cabello and still warmly refers to her as someone close to him.
As reported in The explosionMendes was open and frank about his feelings for the “Havana” singer during another recent interview.
“We haven’t been very close in recent years,” he explained, “but I think we really know each other. We really know each other’s hearts. So even when all the sound and all the noise (from our past) is happening, we can see both pretty easily, and it’s nice to have that.”
This October, Mendes took to Twitter to personally follow up on another appearance in which he shared details of his relationship with Cabello.

When a fan responded that the two artists “didn’t play” out of mutual consideration, Mendes gave a brief but very revealing answer.
“No, we don’t,” the singer said.
Cabello rarely shares her thoughts on her time with Mendes. The two made their public debut as a couple in October 2019, but they were friends long before that.
Still, when she talks about their connection, as she did in a podcast appearance earlier this year, Cabello seems to have no hard feelings toward her previous relationship.
“I will always care about him and love him. He is a good person,” she shared.
“I’m lucky because some people have exes who are horrible, and he doesn’t. He’s a really kind and good person.”
Even their most recent breakup didn’t seem to come from anything negative, with Cabello sharing that they were simply in different places in their lives.
“It wasn’t even a decision (for us),” he said.

“(It was) kind of like, ‘Yeah, this really (doesn’t fit anymore).’ It took less time for both of us to say, ‘We really don’t need to try that hard to make it work.’ It’s all good, let’s move on.’”
Recalling her experience with her exes, Mendes reflected upon knowing that while she meant no harm, her actions still caused pain to one (or both) of her former partners.
“The most important lesson I’ve learned is that no one gets out of this life without getting hurt,” he surmised, “and no one gets out of this life without hurting someone.”
