The Arsenal defender, William Saliba, has sent a clear message to the rest of the Premier League: face Viktor Gyokeres will be a nightmare.
The Swedish striker sealed a transfer that could increase to £ 64 million sporting last week and did not waste time in linking with its new teammates on the club’s preseason tour in Singapore.
Mikel Arteta’s side has been active in the transfers market, adding six fresh faces this summer while aiming to finish a four -year trophies drought.
For Saliba, the Gyokeres could be the final piece of the puzzle after their own experience of trying to stop him in the 5-1 victory of Arsenal over Sporting last November.
“We know how good it is, it is afraid to play against him,” said Saliba. “Of course, I am very happy to have it in my club and I’m sure it will help us win games and win trophies.
“(He scares) because when you face a striker who scores goals, you have to be focused! But now he is in our team and he will score for us, so that is good.”
Arsenal’s supporters took a look at their new striker when Gyokeyes made his first appearance in red and white during a 3-2 victory over Newcastle in Singapore.
His arrival has given the squad renewed optimism while preparing for another thrust of the title.
“Every year is different. We have to learn from the last three seasons. Of course, we are lucky to have the opportunity to compete again in the Premier League to try to win,” Sailiba added.
“Our mentality is to win the Premier League and we will give everything from the first game. We have many new players and hopefully help us win this league.”
Gyokeres is expected to begin the full training sessions with the team in the next few days while traveling from Singapore to Hong Kong, where a confrontation with the Tottenham rivals will conclude his Asian preseason tour.
While speculation has linked Saliba with Real Madrid, the International of France hastened to tear down concerns about his future.
The negotiations on a contract extension are progressing, with the arsenal confident in tie it beyond 2025.
“Yes, hopefully. Of course, now there is nothing, but there is a good conversation with my agent and the club. Let’s see.”
