Rollover of the tourist bus on the New York state road leaves 5 dead, dozen wounds

A tourist bus that returns to New York City from the Niagara cataracts, New York, with 54 people on board crashed and rolled on Friday on an interesting road, killing five passengers and hurting many others, authorities said.

The largest of the state police, Andre Ray, said at a night press conference that the driver apparently distracted, lost control and was excessively corrected before the bus entered the right shoulder and turned shortly before 12:30 pm et on the east side of the 90th interstate in Pembroke, NY, about 40 kilometers east of Buffalo.

He did not say how the driver was distracted and pointed out that the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Ray said passengers were an age of one to 74 years. Several people were expelled from the bus during the accident, and five, all adults were declared dead on the scene, Ray said.

Many others were trapped in the wreck and were rescued. Dozens were taken to hospitals, although Ray said it didn’t seem that no other people had injuries that threaten life.

Bus driver who cooperates with the police

“There was an absolute tragedy,” Ray said. “And first of all, our thoughts, prayers and hearts are with those involved, their friends and their families.”

Ray said a preliminary investigation ruled out a mechanical failure or driver deterioration. According to the officials, the driver survived the accident and was cooperating with the police. No charges had been presented until Friday night, Ray said.

The State Police said the bus was owned by M&S and Tour Inc., in the New York City of Staten Island. A comment was left looking for a message on a telephone list for the company.

M&S and Tour has a “satisfactory” security rating and no accident or death records in the last two years, according to the Federal Safety Administration of Authors. The officials inspected the buses and drivers of the company 60 times in the last two years, the agency said.

Most did not wear safety belts: the police

In a previous press conference, soldier James O’Callaghan said it seemed that most people on the bus did not wear safety belts.

In response to another bus accident in New York in 2023, a state law requires the use of the safety belt on charter buses built as of November 28, 2016. The age of the bus in Friday’s accident was not known immediately.

The people who saw the sequelae of the shipwreck said that glass belongings and people were scattered on the road.

“It was certainly a heartbreaking to see,” said Powell Stephens, from Medina, New York, to Wham-TV after he led to the accident. “There were many people who hugged. It seemed that people broke.”
