Real Madrid 3-2 Borussia Dortmund

Real Madrid contained a return from Borussia Dortmund to ensure a dramatic 3-2 victory in a pulsating match in the Club World Cup.

The objectives of Gonzalo García, Fran García and Kylian Mbappe were enough for the hosts, despite a late resurgence by visitors, with strikes by Maximilian Beier and Serhou Guirsy.

The game was from Madrid from the beginning with both parties showing an intention of attack. Dortmund threatened early through Julian Brandt and Serhou Guirsy, but it was Real Madrid who hit first.

In the tenth minute, the young striker Gonzalo García opened the scoring with a compound finish in the lower corner after a well weighted cross of Arda Gular.

Only ten minutes later, Fran García doubled the leadership of Madrid, playing a loose ball in the box to shoot home with the left foot.

The 2-0 cushion gave him next to Xabi Alonso more confidence, and dominated the possession of great spells of the first half. Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham were close to extending leadership before the interval, while Dortmund was largely restricted to long -range efforts.

In the break, Dortmund made several tactical changes, introducing Maximilian Beier, Felix Nmecha and Yan Couto in the hope of causing a return.

Beier in particular had an instant impact, forcing a salvation of Thibaut Courtois at the beginning of the second half. However, Madrid remained dangerous at the counter, and both Luka Modric and Kylian Mbappe, introduced in the 67th minute, tried Gregor Kobel with sharp efforts.

The drama really began in the detention time. In the 90th minute, Dortmund’s persistence finally was worth it when Beier dismissed Courtois, giving visitors a life line.

But their hopes faded almost immediately. Only a minute later, Arda Gular delivered a brilliant cross in which Mbappe clung, hitting a fabulous bicycle kick in the lower corner.

Even so, the game had one more turn. In the 96th minute, the substitute Dean Huijsen showed a straight red card for a foul on the surface inside the box, admitting a penalty in the process.

The Dortmund striker stepped forward and sent the target shot to the upper left corner, doing it 3-2 and establishing frantic last minutes.

With Madrid up to ten men, Dortmund advanced in search of an equalizer. Marcel Sabitzer had a golden opportunity deeply in the additional time, but Courtois once again proved to be the difference, immersing himself to his left to avoid the effort of the midfielder and preserve the victory.
