An Israeli airstrike killed Palestinian journalist Ahmed Al-Louh and five Palestinian Civil Defense workers in the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza.
Al-Louh, who worked as a cameraman for Al Jazeera along with other media outlets, was killed Sunday in the attack on the Civil Defense post in Gaza’s central camp, according to local doctors and journalists.
The attack came as Israeli military strikes in the Gaza Strip killed at least 28 Palestinians on Sunday, doctors said. Allouh is the third journalist killed in Gaza in the last 24 hours.
Al Jazeera Arabic reported that Al-louh was working while dead, wearing a press vest and helmet. He was transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the Gaza city of Deir el-Balah.
Al Jazeera Media Network condemned the murder of Al-Louh and called on human rights and media organizations “to condemn the systematic murder of journalists in cold blood by the Israeli occupation, the evasion of responsibilities under international law humanitarian and bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous crime.” to justice.”
“We urge the relevant international legal institutions to take practical and urgent measures to hold the Israeli authorities and all those responsible for their heinous crimes and to adopt mechanisms to end the attacks and murders of journalists,” the network added.
Al-Louh had been covering Israel’s war in Gaza when it began in October 2023, embedded with the Gaza Strip’s Palestinian Civil Defense teams, said Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary.
“It is another heartbreaking day for Palestinians, civil defense teams and journalists. We have been asking ourselves: how many times are we going to continue reporting on the murders of our colleagues and loved ones?” Khoudary said, reporting from Deir el-Balah.
The Gaza media office said the head of the civil emergency service in Nuseirat, Nedal Abu Hjayyer, was also killed in Sunday’s attack.
“The civil emergency headquarters in Nuseirat camp was attacked during the presence of the crews. They work around the clock to serve the people,” Zaki Emadeldeen of the civil emergency service told reporters at the hospital.
“The civil emergency service is a humanitarian and not a political service. “They work in times of war and peace at the service of the people,” he said, adding that the place was directly hit by an Israeli airstrike.
The Israeli military said they were investigating the attack.
Several more Palestinian journalists were killed last week, 195 of them killed in Gaza since Israel’s war began, Khoudary said.
Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud said earlier on Sunday that Palestinian journalist Mohammed Jabr al-Qrinawi was killed along with his wife and children in an Israeli airstrike that targeted his home in the Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza, late Saturday.
Earlier on Saturday, Al Mashhad Media said its journalist Mohammed Balousha was killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza.
Several Al Jazeera journalists have been killed since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza, including Ismail al-Ghoul, Rami al-Rifi, Samer Abudaqa and Hamza Dahdouh.
Also on Sunday, an airstrike hit people protecting aid trucks west of Gaza City. Doctors said several were killed or injured, but exact figures were not yet available.
Residents also said at least 11 people were killed in three separate Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City. Nine people were killed in the towns of Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanoon and Jabalia camp when groups of houses were bombed or burned, and two were killed by drone fire in Rafah.
Earlier on Sunday, at least 15 Palestinians were killed after Israeli forces stormed the Khalil Oweida school in Beit Hanoon, sources told Al Jazeera.
Several other Israeli strikes on Sunday killed Palestinians near the Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza; and in Shujayea, in Khan Younis.
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, at least 44,976 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since October 7, 2023.
