OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to donate $1M to Trump inaugural fund


OpenAI CEO Sam Altman joins the list of American tech titans donating to President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural fund, a source who works with him exclusively told Fox News Digital.

“President Trump will lead our country into the age of AI, and I look forward to supporting his efforts to ensure America remains ahead of the curve,” Altman said in a written statement.

Altman reportedly plans to personally commit $1 million to the Presidential Inaugural Committee, rather than have the gift come directly from OpenAI.

The news comes on the heels of Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta Platforms and Jeff Bezos’ Amazon announcing $1 million for the inauguration fund, in moves that reportedly serve to soften ties with the incoming commander in chief.

Bezos will donate through Amazon, the Wall Street Journal reported, while Zuckerberg pledged the gift to Meta while attending Trump’s Thanksgiving dinner at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

Altman, who revolutionized the artificial intelligence industry with the creation of ChatGPT, told “Fox News Sunday” earlier this month that he hopes to work with the incoming Trump administration, emphasizing how “super important” it is to the United States and his allies. lead the infrastructure charge that will support the development of cutting-edge AI, especially in the technological race against China.

“AI is a little bit different than other types of software in the sense that it requires enormous amounts of infrastructure, energy, computer chips, data centers, and we need to build that here, and we need to be able to have the best AI infrastructure in the world. to be able to lead with technology and capabilities,” Altman said. “I think President-elect Trump will be very good at that.”

“I look forward to working with the (Trump) administration on this,” the technology CEO continued. “It seems to us that this is going to be very important. It seems that it will be one of those unusually important moments in the history of technology. And we strongly believe that the United States and our allies must lead this.”

The OpenAI leader also spoke with FOX Business’ Charles Payne days later, expanding on the importance of AI in the US national security landscape.

“The stakes are high. AI is here,” he said, “AI will impact much of what we do… America has to lead innovation in AI. This technology will be used by our adversaries.” “We have to use it to help defend American troops.”

Other tech moguls who supported Trump throughout his campaign include Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Palantir Technologies co-founder Joe Lonsdale, venture capitalist David Sacks, Andreessen Horowitz founders Ben Horowitz and Marc Andreessen, and the co-founders of the Gemini cryptocurrency exchange, Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss.
