Ola Consumer denies differential prices for Android and Apple phones

The Shared Company Ola Consumer does not adjust the prices based on the operating system of the user’s mobile device on Friday. His Global Uber rival had denied similar accusations of differential prices for Android and Apple phones.

Ola Consumer’s statement was issued in response to the statement of a consumer to reserve identical trips on Android and iOS devices generated different rates.

The clarification aims to address concerns about the transparency of prices, especially after reports of discrepancies perceived in travel rates between Android and iOS users. Dynamic price setting, a key feature of shared transport services, adapts real -time rates based on factors such as peak hours, route conditions and vehicle availability.

On January 23, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) sent notices to OLA and UBER transport services due to accusations of differential prices according to the mobile phone type used to book trips. This action was motivated by consumer complaints who reported having seen different prices for the same trips depending on whether they reserved using an iPhone or an Android device.

The Minister of Consumer Affairs of the Union, Pralhad Joshi, announced in X, through social networks, that investigations have been initiated to address concerns about possible differential prices practices by these important Taxis aggregators.

The CCPA notices were issued after Minister Joshi issued a warning to companies last month on the zero tolerance policy of the Ministry towards practices that exploit consumers.

The minister expressed concern about possible unfair commercial practices, specifically mentioning taxi aggregators who use differential prices based on several factors. Such practices, if confirmed, would constitute a violation of the rights of consumers to transparency and the fixation of fair prices, as stated in an X publication.

“This, Prima Facie, seems like a unfair commercial practice in which it is alleged that taxi aggregators use differential prices based on the factors mentioned in the following article. If so, this is a shameless contempt for the right of Consumers to know, “he said. In an X publication.

In response to a publication on social networks, Uber explained that the differences at the collection points, the estimated arrival time and the delivery places can generate variations in travel prices. The company said the price of the trip is not customized according to the passenger cell phone manufacturer.
