The Supreme Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, has officially opened a new beach complex in the country’s coastal tourist area of the country, six years after it should be completed, state media reported Thursday.
The massive tourist area, located on the east coast of North Korea, is part of a key project promoted by Kim Jong a for years to promote tourism in the country notoriously exclusive.

With “great satisfaction,” Kim attended an inaugural ceremony for the coastal tourist area of Wonsan Kalma, said the Central Korean news agency (KCNA), adding that the resort can accommodate about 20,000 visitors and that the country would build more large -scale tourist areas quickly.
According to the National News Agency, the tourist area offers facilities to sunbathe along a four -kilometer beach and several sports services, amusements, commercial and catering catering, as well as a wide variety of accommodations, throughout the year.

The area has long been a holiday destination for the locals, but Kim wanted to transform it into an extensive tourism point of one billion dollars inspired by “Korean -style.”

Tourism in North Korea is not an industry led by the sanctions of the United Nations, but the elusive country did not collaborate with any foreign partner to develop the Wonsan project due to economic sanctions on its nuclear weapons programs.

Russia and North Korea are being associated to grow tourism in both countries and have restarted a direct service trains between their capitals, Moscow and Pyongyang, for the first time since 2020.
