Gatestone Institute’s senior partner, Gordon Chang, evaluates President Donald Trump for China’s sanctions on Russian oil purchases and the Chinese economy that slowly slows up in July.
The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, said that the United States and India are “close friends and natural partners” while expressing their confidence that future commercial negotiations could unlock an “unlimited potential.”
In a publication about X at dawn on Wednesday, Modi said both countries are working to resolve commercial discussions “as soon as possible.” He added that he expected conversations with President Donald Trump.
“We will work together to ensure a brighter and more prosperous future for our people,” Modi wrote.

Trump made a similar publication earlier on the day praising Modi as a “very good friend” and confirming that the two countries were in negotiations. He added that he expected a favorable result in the coming weeks.
The conversations mark a significant change after months of high commercial tensions, with both countries imposing tariffs and counter-tariffs.
Washington is pressing New Delhi to relieve the prices of dairy products and US agricultural products, something that India resists to protect its large population from small farmers.

Trump has asked India to reduce the dependence on Russian oil and increase her purchases of liquefied natural gas and liquefied crude, but India argues that energy diversification is essential to keep stable prices.
In technology, US companies are pressing for greater access to the market, stronger intellectual property protections and less data location rules, than India Defends as necessary for national security and support for their own new companies.

These unresolved disputes in agriculture, energy and continue to leave negotiations at a crossroads and are the greatest obstacles to seal a comprehensive agreement.
