Manchester United will be without midfielder Mason Mount again for “several weeks”, with new manager Ruben Amorim promising to help the Englishman recover.
Mount limped off after 14 minutes of United’s 2-1 victory over rivals Manchester City last weekend and missed Thursday’s defeat to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
The former Chelsea player missed four months of last season with a calf injury and has only played 12 times this season due to multiple setbacks.
Asked how long Mount would be out for before Sunday’s visit to Bournemouth, Amorim said: “Several weeks.
“I don’t know the exact date but he will be out for a long time. In that sense it is part of football and we continue.
“What I can do is help Mase, teach him how to play our game when he is recovering. Try to use that time for him to think about different things, and then I think the worst part is that we don’t have time to train like we should when you’re recovering from a lot of injuries.
“We always travel, we have games, so when training we don’t have the whole team together and it is very difficult to recreate the game before they come. “It is very hard for the player to be out for so long and he is trying very hard.”
Luke Shaw will also be unavailable for Bournemouth, but Marcus Rashford is in contention.
Amorim once again left Rashford out of his midweek matchday squad against Tottenham, which was purely due to “selection”, but came 48 hours after the United academy product declared himself “ready for a new challenge.”
Asked if this omission, after Rashford was also absent in the win over Manchester City, was due to disciplinary reasons, Amorim said: “No, it’s the same guys, the same. Totally the same.”
Asked if Rashford could face Bournemouth, Amorim said: “Yes, of course.”
