In an exclusive interview with Us weeklyThe NBA Hall of Famer, who turned 65 in August, explained how appreciation for the regime makes him laugh in Father Time’s face.
“I feel great!” Magic boasted. “Although I am retired from basketball, I still follow a very strict exercise routine (a combination of cardio and weight lifting) that consists of getting a good night’s rest, getting up early to exercise regularly, and eating healthy. “Health and wellness are in my DNA, so I don’t think that will ever leave me.”

“We both hold each other accountable for completing our respective workouts, as well as eating healthy and staying as active as possible,” he explained. “Even when we’re on vacation, we still prioritize our exercise regimen; it’s ingrained in our lifestyle.”
Magic and Cookie’s responsibility probably came into play when the couple took a several-week pre-birthday trip to Italy and Croatia, in which they both documented extensively on social media.
The former Lakers legend also explained how the dedication to health and wellness has become a full-fledged family affair that is passed down to his children: andré43, and E.J.32 years old, and daughter Eliza29.
“Everyone’s journey is different when it comes to staying fit and eating healthy and that’s what happened with our kids,” Magic explained. “Cookie and I encouraged our kids to exercise and be active, but they fell in love with exercising and eating healthy on their own time. “It takes incredible discipline, focus and drive to want to exercise daily.”
Now, Magic is helping to pass on that knowledge and passion to a younger generation through his investment company. Magic Johnson Companies. The group has partnered with F45 Training donate over 4,000 F45 fit kits to support the health and well-being of children and teens nationwide.
Each kit contains equipment such as jump ropes, cones, and agility ladders that can be used in age-appropriate exercise routines.
“I love that they provide a great workout and can be used inside and outside,” Magic said. “That’s the great thing about the F45 fit kits: they help us get back to functional movements. With a jump rope, cones and agility ladders, we give kids the opportunity to be creative in doing the exercise routines that work best for them, regardless of their level or where they need to exercise.”
Recipients of the kits included the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation and the NFL’s Washington Commanders, both teams in which Magic has ownership, as well as the Crenshaw (CA) YMCA and several Boys and & Girls Clubs in California and DC.
“The hope is to reach as many children as possible with the F45 inventory because exercise and movement are crucial for children, especially today with the rise in childhood obesity,” Magic said. “While we’re starting with Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCAs, and teams I have in California and DC, the goal is to continue identifying organizations across the country that could use F45 kits for children in need.”
