Sunderland soccer director Kristjaan Speakman said: “Jayden is an extremely talented player, who fits the profile we were looking for. Its availability would always be determined at the end of the window due to the Liverpool schedule and its demand was high, so we worked extremely hard to ensure the player.
“It is unfortunate that the medical process highlights a problem that finally requires Jayden to take a rest period. In spite of this, he remained very motivated to come to Sunderland and, as such, we agreed to collaborate with Liverpool to ensure that there is a chance to join us at a later date.
“We are still excited about working with him and we hope to support him during the next period.”
Danns has scored three goals in nine senior appearances for Liverpool and is excited about the opportunity to move to the Light Stadium.
He said: “This is my first loan movement and the opportunity to demonstrate myself, so I am very grateful for the opportunity and I am grateful to the club for putting its faith in me.
“I have done my research and the team is incredible, so it feels like the right step. I am disappointed that I cannot do it immediately, but I am proud to have joined the club and I will work hard during this period to make sure I can return to action and play my part. “
Sunderland is fourth in the championship after winning 3-2 in Middlesbrough last night.
