Israel announced a great expansion of military operations in Gaza on Wednesday, saying that large areas of the enclave would be seized and added to their security zones, accompanied by large -scale evacuation of the population.
Israeli leaders have been encouraged by signs of protest in Gaza against Hamas, the militant group that has controlled the enclave since 2007, and the expanded operation seemed at least destined to increase civil pressure on its leaders.
In a statement, Defense Minister Israel Katz said that the evacuation would be carried out from the areas where there are struggles, while urging Gazanes to eliminate Hamas and return to Israeli hostages as the only way to end the war.
The Israeli army had already issued evacuation warnings to the gazanes that live around the southern city of Rafah and towards the city of Khan Younis, telling them that they move to the Al-Mawasi area on the shore, previously designated a humanitarian area.
The radio of the Israel Army said that the 36 division, sent to the South Command area last month to prepare for operations in Gaza, would participate in the operation.
Katz’s statement did not make clear how much Israel intends to take advantage.
The Israeli forces have already established a significant damping zone within Gaza, expanding an area that existed around the edges of the enclave before the war and adding a large security area in the so -called Netzarim corridor through half of Gaza.
At the same time, Israeli leaders have said they plan to facilitate the voluntary departure of the Palestinians of the enclave, after the president of the United States, Donald Trump, asked to be permanently evacuated and rebuilt as a coastal complex under the control of the United States.
Katz’s comments occurred after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeated calls to Hamas to disarm and said that the application of military pressure was the best way to recover the remaining 59 hostages.
“I call Gaza residents to act now to eliminate Hamas and return all the kidnapped,” Katz said in his statement, added that the operation would clear the area of militants and their infrastructure.
“This is the only way to end the war,” Katz said.
Israel resumed the air attacks in Gaza last month and sent terrestrial troops back, after two months of relative calm after the conclusion of a truce backed by the United States to allow the exchange of hostages in the hands of Hamas for the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.
Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed since the resumption of strikes, and Israel has also cut the aid to the enclave, saying that much of the material that entered was taken by Hamas and used for their own members.
The efforts led by Qatar and Egyptian mediators to return to the track so far have failed to progress.
As the operation in Gaza has intensified, Israel has also achieved the objectives in the south of Lebanon and Syria, with a strike in a Hezbollah commander in the South Suburbs of South Beirut on Tuesday that added tension to the A frayed fire agreements that had largely stopped the struggles in January.
In addition, Israeli troops are still carrying out an important operation in occupied West Bank that, according to the Army, aims to destroy militant groups backed by Iranian in the refugee fields of the area.
Israel invaded Gaza after the devastating attack against communities in southern Israel by thousands of armed men led by Hamas who killed 1,200 people according to the many Israelis, and saw 251 taken as hostages in Gaza.
The Israeli campaign has killed more than 50,000 Palestinians and devastated the Gaza Strip, forcing almost the entire population of 2.3 million their homes, leaving hundreds of thousands in tents and improvised shelters.
