io9 was invited to the Nosferatu Experience to immerse ourselves in the world of the next Focus Features film directed by Robert Eggers (The lighthouse). The haunting vampire tour was a limited engagement by Thirteenth Floor Entertainment’s director of immersion, Jon Braver, who headed the team behind the interactive game series. Deception about collaboration.
The evening event took place December 16-18 at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. The Masonic Lodge has been transformed into the mansion of a certain Count Orlok (in Eggers’ film, he is played by Bill Skarsgård), who invites him on a melancholy tour of his estate to conduct some business. Its transformation in the world of Nosferatu was driven by a haunting soundscape from the film’s composer, Robin Carolan.
A tour, you say? That seemed totally safe: what could really be the harm in seeing a collection of screen-used props and costumes, as well as hidden objects and relics of very intense dark magic?
However, it was more than just a display; The space was brought to life by actors who leaned into the film’s gothic tone in captivating and haunted ways. On the one hand, they were very concerned about the contract drawn up by Orlok’s associate gentleman, insisting that I sign it, even though it was in a language that was not decipherable to my eyes. And yes, I signed it, what can I say? I’m a deeply curious person when it comes to vampires and I want that. Nosferatu coffin very bad. So he definitely wasn’t going to listen to any warnings from the rat-infested loons and the deeply pious beautiful ladies.
This movie-related encounter was definitely a “light” version of the Deception The team’s annual interactive plays that do not allow video recording. So if you’ve ever been curious about one of their productions, this was definitely a taste of the West Coast giant’s immersive theater. To the Nosferatu Experience: We were able to capture the eerie eeriness of the film’s tone on camera as the strange inhabitants led us through various hallways to see elements of the film’s plot without much context, including slightly graphic black magic rituals and the feeling of fear that hangs over certain artifacts such as Orlok’s Coffin and books of dark magic.
Two women floated in terror before the shadow of the vampire projected on the walls as if it were approaching and that drove the plague victims even more crazy. By then, the ink on my contract was dry, so it was too late. I had to get closer to my destination as I got closer to meeting the Count. I can only vaguely remember what exactly happened, but I sure have two sharp marks on my neck and a strange aversion to light. So, Focus Features, When Nosferatu Is the coffin bed coming?
Nosferatu opens in theaters on December 25.
