The manager of the Rangers, Russell Martin, defended his decision to start two key players in the bank when the Scottish giants took a significant step towards the play-offs of the Champions League with a 3-0 victory over the Czech Viktoria Plzen team.
Djeidi Gassama packed an orthopedic device and Cyriel Dessers sent a penalty while the Rangers sailed to a comfortable victory of the third round leg in Ibrox.
But the great news before the beginning was the decision made by Martin, who launched his players after the 1-1 draw in Motherwell on Saturday, to eliminate Captain James Tavernier and Nico Raskin of the initial eleven.
However, the decision seemed to bear fruit with the Martin team producing a dominant exhibition before the second leg in Pilsen next week.
And the new chief of the Rangers supported his decision, insisting that he will need everyone in the team to play his role.
“I don’t like the word to fall,” Martin told BBC Sport after the game.
“I told the boys before they do not abandon you from the team. We will need everyone (in the team). People are going to leave, we need freshness.
“You, as a chief coach, have to do the best for the team at night. The boys who appeared did it brilliantly and that is all you can ask.
“There is a trend here that one thing becomes a great thing, but it is not at all. Tonight was the best team.
“I don’t think it’s the same eleven weeks, week,”.
If the headlines prior to the game are largely concerned with long -date players of the club, the approach after the game will probably be on the fresh faces of Ibrox.
Gassama, who signed from Sheffield on Wednesday in the summer, has now scored in three consecutive European games, while there was also an outstanding performance of the 23 -year -old debutant, Oliver Antman.
The young Finnish provided assistance for the second of Gassama and seemed a constant threat on the right side of the Rangers.
Martin was happy with the contribution of his two new signings, but he also praised the entire team for his performance.
“I am very happy with a lot (the game),” Martin said.
“I was a bit annoying with the last 15 minutes, since I thought we got too neglected and had the ball too much in our own half. But it is my job to demand the boys.
“It is really difficult to try to learn many details and apply it with correct intensity and courage, especially after a difficult afternoon on Saturday (against Motherwell). So I’m really proud of the team.”
