Haaland backs Guardiola to get Manchester City out of the current crisis

Erling Haaland admits his and Manchester City’s recent performances have not been good enough but backed manager Pep Guardiola to “find the solutions”.

City have now won just once in their last 12 games after losing 2-1 at Aston Villa this lunch, goals from Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers putting the hosts in control before Phil Foden’s late consolation.

Haaland was once again a peripheral figure as City struggled to prevail in the face of fierce pressure from Villa and the Norwegian striker recognizes that improvement is required, both individually and collectively.

Haaland – not good enough

He told TNT Sports: “Of course we are disappointed, it is not good enough. It’s not good enough of me.

“They are good players, it is difficult to come here, but as Man City we should be there. We have to continue, we have to believe and we have to continue working hard.

“We have to continue. First I look at myself, I haven’t been doing things well enough, I haven’t marked my opportunities. I have to do better, I haven’t been good enough.”

The defeat continues what is undoubtedly the biggest crisis of Guardiola’s managerial career, but Haaland backed the Catalan to guide City through the storm.

“He won the Premier League six times in seven years, so we will never forget him,” he added.

“He will find the solutions. He’s been doing it every year. We continue to believe in him, we have to work harder than ever right now.

“We know how important trust is and it is seen to affect all human beings. “That’s the way it is, we have to continue and stay positive even if it’s difficult.”

We are going to regain trust – Guardiola

Guardiola was disappointed by his team’s performance in the second half.

He told TNT Sports: “We did a really good first half, the second half we lost. We changed our pressure because of the reason John (Stones) couldn’t continue.

“We had good moments, we had opportunities, more opportunities than in the game against (Manchester) United, but in the second half we went down and our pressure was not good enough. In the end we found the goal, but too late.

“It’s hard for us to score and we concede goals.”

However, he remains confident that City will get out of this situation and regain his confidence.

“Step by step, we have good personalities on the team and sooner or later we are going to find it,” he said.
