Thieves used explosives to force the door of a Dutch museum on Saturday morning and stole several gold masterpieces. Museum officials said in a statement.
Police received a report at 3:45 am local time on Saturday about an explosion at the Drets Museum in Assen. Upon arrival, the agents found the damaged museum and the missing gold masterpieces.
The thieves stole a co -ofenești helmet lent by the Romania National History Museum in Bucharest and three real dacios bracelets. The artifacts were exposed in the exhibition “Dacia – Empire of gold and silver,” said the museum.
“This is a dark day for the Assen Drets Museum and the National Museum of History of Romania in Bucharest. We are very shocked by the events last night in the museum. In its 170 years of existence, there has never been such a serious incident. “said Harry Tupan, general director of the Drets Museum.
Dutch police
The museum said it would remain closed during the weekend while the police carried out an investigation.
No injuries were reported and so far there have been arrests. The authorities suspect that several people were involved, Dutch police said in a statement.
Police said they received a fire report in a car around 4:15 am, but there was no one inside the vehicle on fire. The authorities suspect that the car can be related to the explosion and theft in the museum. The suspects changed to another vehicle in the vicinity of the fire, police said.
Police asked the residents close to the museum who could have images of a bell chamber or a board between 3:00 and 4:30 am, and asked people to have seen something unusual in the museum of Drets in the last days to communicate with the police. .
