‘Evaluation officer demands 7 l bribero’: the importer exposes the corruption of Customs of Chennai, releases audio recordings with the officer

The Tweet of an importer based in Chennai who sets out a demand for 7 Lakh-Rupia bribes by customs officials has caused generalized indignation online. Prawin Ganeshan led X (previously Twitter) to share his terrible experience, revealing how his sending from China was caught for more than 72 hours due to a demand for bribes supposedly facilitated by an agent named Sridhar.

“The evaluation officer demands 7 l bribery for my shipment through its bribery collection agent Sridhar, Cha @ Chennai. Evaluation without face, however, they have agents that demand bribes such as this importers, ”Ganeshan wrote, labeling Chennai Customs, the Central Board of Indirect and Customs Taxes (CBIC), and the Minister of Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman.

Ganeshan explained that this was the first time that it imported products from China. He said that after a consultation with respect to his last three entry tickets (BOE) for similar products, the Customs House agent demanded a bribe worth two or three times the value of the shipment, citing the import scheme of goods (SIIB) as reason.

Chennai Customs replied, asking Ganeshan to provide the details of his shipment for greater investigation. Later, Ganeshan confirmed that he shared the entrance bill and added: “I have Audio de Cha recordings and the evaluation officer demanding 7 ruthless Lakhs for cleaning the bill.”

In a separate publication he even shared a video with the audio recording with the customs officer. He wrote: “I am not making an unfounded accusation without evidence, this well -known person in the customs circle as an agent to collect bribery in the name of the officer sitting in Delhi, the officer only wants to treat through him and no less offer than 7 Lakhs for my shipment.

The publication has gone viral, accumulating more than 3.4 Lakh views and I like 45,000, with several users who share their experiences of corruption in customs procedures.

Others reported similar incidents, with a user who indicated that he had to pay 5,000 rupees instead of 500 to activate his ICAGATE ID, while another reported that he paid bribes to clean chemicals for export despite presenting adequate documents.
