Unai Emery says he wants to “support” and “help” Marcus Rashford after Manchester United’s loan impressed as Aston Villa Cam from behind to overcome Chelsea in Villa Park.
Another of Villa’s loan signings, Marco Asensio, scored twice in the second half when the hosts recovered from Enzo Fernández’s first game to claim a 2-1 victory.
Rashford, who came out of the bank in halftime, provided assists for both objectives, since the England striker seeks to rekindle his career away from Old Trafford.
Rashford seemed a constant threat to the left towards Villa, and Emery revealed that he wanted to help the 27 -year -old to recover his trust.
“(We want) to support him, help him, make him feel comfortable here to get confidence with us,” Emery said after the game.
“With luck, it will be increasingly important for us.”
The head of the town admitted that the first half of the performance against Chelsea was below the pair, but praised the performance of his players after the break.
Emery said: “We needed more. We grant a lot and do not dominate the games. Today we start very badly, we admit the goal. We arrive late to our press. Then we were progressively improving.
“In the second half, we play fantastically. The submarines had a good impact, and we needed it because we played on Wednesday (against Liverpool) and we were getting tired. “
Emery added that it was vital that Villa reinforced his squad in the January transfer window if they will compete on three different fronts this season.
“We were with the need to improve our squad,” said the Spanish.
“We want players to compete among the top eight, the FA Cup and the Champions League.”
