Mister Elton John you are expressing your gratitude to a “higher power.”

talking to time magazineJohn reflected on how he has overcome many of life’s problems over the years.
The 77-year-old man, at different times in his life, had problems with drug addiction, depression and a period of loneliness.
He now attributes his triumph over these struggles to a “higher being” who he believes has cared for him throughout his life. He also admitted that while he felt like something bigger was at work in his life, he simply hadn’t “recognized” that presence before.
“I don’t really believe in the biblical God that much, but I have faith,” the “Your Song” singer told the outlet. “My higher power has been watching over me my whole life; it helped me through drugs, it helped me through depression, it helped me through loneliness, and it got me sober.”

Today, John has been sober for several decades after his former lover and manager, John Reid, introduced him to cocaine.
Reflecting on that lifestyle, the singer admitted that turning to drugs initially helped him cope with his crippling shyness, but it eventually consumed him and led him to “terrible decisions.”
Among them was his tendency to pursue romantic relationships in unhealthy and destructive ways.
The songwriter shared: “I wanted love so much that I would just take it hostage. I would see someone I liked and they would spend three or four months together, and then they would resent me because they had nothing in their life other than me. It really bothers me to think about how many people I probably hurt.”

Since overcoming his struggle with addiction, John has been deeply committed to helping others free themselves from its clutches. Having witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of substance abuse, he now advocates avoiding all drugs, including legal marijuana.
He added: “I maintain that it’s addictive. It leads to other drugs. And when you’re high (and I’ve been high before) you don’t think normally.”

Despite his extensive song catalogue, John still doesn’t like making music videos and feels they are more suitable for “beautiful people”.
He shared, “I’m not very good at looking at myself. I don’t think you ever lose that body awareness. I just think it stays with you forever. But I’m much better.”
The Royal Academy of Music alum is also not very fond of television, stating that it does more harm than good to an artist’s career and personality.
“Being on TV all the time kills your career, kills your vibe, kills your charisma completely,” John added.
Nowadays, he would rather spend his time enjoying the little things in life and wouldn’t mind not being able to play music again if it meant he would never be able to listen to it again.
In July, John suffered loss of sight in his right eye due to an infection he contracted while abroad.
However, it wasn’t until September that he revealed the problem and shared that he felt positive about the progress he had made in his healing and recovery.
Recently, he shared an update on his condition during an interview with ABC Newsrevealing that while there is hope for improvement, he is currently unable to create music.
He shared, “I’m kind of stuck right now… going into the studio and recording, I don’t know, because I can’t see the lyrics to begin with.”
John added: “It’s never lucky for something like this to happen. And it just floored me and I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t see anything.”
