Brighton’s unbeaten home record in the Premier League this season came to an end as they lost 3-1 to Crystal Palace at the Amex Stadium.
In the so-called ‘M23 derby’, Ismaila Sarr scored a brace and Trevoh Chalobah also scored, as Palace extended their recent unbeaten run to five games.
Brighton pulled one back late on with a Marc Guehi own goal, but it was the Eagles who rose higher than the Seagulls on the south coast to move up to 15th in the table.
Brighton’s defeat drops them two places to ninth and means Fabian Hurzeler’s side are now winless in four.

The first big moment fell to the hosts when Joao Pedro played in Kaoru Mitoma, but the skilful winger could only fire the ball into the legs of Dean Henderson from a tight angle.
From there, Brighton carried much of the initial threat. But it was Palace who broke the deadlock in the 26th minute.
A dangerous corner taken by Will Hughes, making his 100th appearance for the visitors, was ignored by the hosts, allowing Chalobah to smash the ball into the roof of the net from close range.
Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen kept the score at 1-0 with a smart double save from Sarr and Daniel Muñoz.
But moments later Palace doubled their lead when Sarr headed in at the far post from Tyrick Mitchell’s deep cross.

Glasner’s side suddenly stood up. Hurzeler’s men seemed shocked. Eberechi Eze had a great chance to put Palace even further ahead, but his header went just wide of the goal.
After the break, Brighton brought on Julio Enciso in an attempt to salvage something from the game, while Yankuba Minteh and Carlos Baleba tried to rally the home fans.
From a free-kick, Henderson parried Lewis Dunk’s header before Enciso pulled off another impressive save from the Palace stopper when he deflected the Paraguayan’s shot around the post.
It was now all one-way traffic as Brighton desperately tried not to give up their unbeaten home record in the league. But the Palace defense remained firm.

Substitute Brajan Gruda’s deflected free kick grazed the top of the net. Pervis Estupinan volleyed wide.
But it was to be a memorable day for Palace on the south coast. With eight minutes left, Sarr broke away and put on a low show under Verbruggen’s control to get his second goal of the game.
Guehi scored an unfortunate own goal in what turned out to be little more than a consolation for Brighton, while Eddie Nketiah fired wide when he should have made it four.
In the end it was the away support who would return to the M23 with the points and indeed bragging rights.
