Double joy for Milan as the Serie A giants keep pace with Napoli

Both Inter and AC Milan achieved crucial victories on Sunday night…

The race for the Serie A title continues to tighten after Inter and AC Milan recorded wins on Sunday, closing the gap on league leaders Napoli.

Hellas Verona 1-2 Inter

At the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi stadium, Hellas Verona was on the verge of achieving its first historic victory of the season.

Inter scored first in the 16th minute, when Piotr Zielinski converted Hakan Calhanoglu’s superb corner with a well-placed volley.

However, Verona, undeterred, responded just before the break when Gift Orban set up Giovane, who fired a powerful right-footed shot into the far corner to equalise.

Despite controlling the second half and limiting Inter’s offensive threat, Verona could not find a winner. In the sixth minute of added time, a dangerous cross from Nicolo Barella bounced off Martin Frese and into his own goal, giving Inter a dramatic 2-1 victory.

The defeat extends Verona’s wait for its first league victory, while Inter continues to chase Napoli at the top.

AC Milan 1-0 Rome

At San Siro, AC Milan faced a different challenge against Roma, who dominated possession in the first half.

Milan broke the deadlock in the 39th minute thanks to Strahinja Pavlovic, who scored a low pass from Rafael Leao after a quick counterattack.

Roma pressed relentlessly thereafter, winning a late penalty when Pellegrini’s free kick hit Fofana’s arm, but Paulo Dybala saw his spot-kick cleverly saved by Mike Maignan, diving low to his left.

The victory puts Milan on 21 points, tied on points with Roma and Inter, but ahead on goal difference, just one behind the leader Napoli, which remains at the top of the table.
